What spiritual practices does Chapter 49 identify as most important for a devotee, and what attitudes does it warn against?

📖 Chapter 49

Chapter 49 strongly advocates that the "meditation on one's own Guru is the greatest of all" spiritual practices. This single act is held as being greater than pilgrimages, vows, sacrifices, charity, and even the singing of Hari's name. For Sai's followers, Sai alone is their object of meditation and worship. Conversely, the chapter warns against the poisons of ego and pride. It states that one who has "complete pride in his body" or the "arrogance of knowledge and the pride of superiority" cannot be a true devotee. Such a person is dismissed as an "abode of hypocrisy." The ideal path is to cultivate love for the Guru's feet, which is described as the only true wealth.
