Before the grand Chavadi procession began, Sai Baba engaged in specific rituals as detailed in Chapter 37. After getting ready in His usual kafni and satka, and after Tatya Patil had lovingly placed a golden-bordered shawl over Him, Baba would perform a unique act. He would go to the wall where a bundle of firewood was kept and move His right big toe at that spot for a moment. Immediately after, He would personally wave His right hand over the burning flame there, extinguishing it. Only after completing this personal rite would Sai Baba set out for the Chavadi, signaling the start of the musical and devotional procession.
