What specific characteristics and practices of Sai Baba made it impossible for people to categorize him as strictly Hindu or Muslim?

📖 Chapter 7

Chapter 7 details several contradictions that made Sai Baba's religious identity ambiguous. If one considered him a Hindu, they had to reconcile that he constantly resided in a mosque. Conversely, if one called him a Muslim, they had to explain the presence of a sacred fire (Dhuni) burning day and night in that same mosque. The text also notes that in the mosque, there was the ringing of bells, blowing of conches, Bhajan, and ritual worship—all Hindu practices. Physically, he had pierced ears like a Hindu but was also circumcised, a Muslim custom. Chapter 7 concludes that because of these dualities, he was a holy incarnation beyond either classification.
