Before departing for the Chavadi, Sai Baba followed a distinct routine. As detailed in Chapter 37, even when ready, He would wait for Tatya Patil to arrive. Once Tatya came, he would place a golden-bordered shawl over Baba. Baba would then approach a bundle of firewood against the wall, move His right big toe at that spot, and then wave His right hand over the burning flame to extinguish it. Only after completing this personal ritual would He set out for the Chavadi, signaling the start of the grand procession with music and fireworks.
