After getting ready and after Tatya Patil had placed a golden-bordered shawl over Him, Baba would first go to a wall where a bundle of firewood was kept. There, He would move His right big toe at that spot for a moment. Immediately after, He would personally wave His right hand over the burning flame at that spot, extinguishing it. Only after completing this personal ritual would Sai Baba set out for the Chavadi, at which point the procession would begin with music and fireworks.
