What philosophical explanation does Chapter 23 provide for the soul's delusion and the path to its liberation?

📖 Chapter 23

According to the teachings in Chapter 23, the soul is inherently beyond the three gunas and is of the nature of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss (Sacchidananda). However, it becomes deluded by Maya, forgets its true nature, and mistakenly identifies with the physical body, leading it to think "I am the doer, I am the enjoyer." This delusion results in a cycle of distress and calamities. The chapter presents loving devotion (Bhakti Yoga) at the feet of the Guru as the definitive way to calm these calamities and escape this delusion. It uses the analogy of a parrot in a cage, which mistakes its confinement for happiness, to illustrate how the soul is trapped by sensual pleasures, unaware of true freedom until a master's grace enlightens it.
