To realize the Self, several key obstacles must be overcome, as detailed in Chapter 37. The primary barrier is ignorance (Avidya), the root cause of perceiving manifoldness, which must be removed through knowledge from the Guru. Secondly, the intellect, which gives shelter to desires, must be dissolved. The text states that 'where the intellect stops, the manifest and unmanifest stand together,' and its dissolution leads to the 'dawn of the Self instantly.' Finally, the main characteristics of death—ignorance, Maya, desire, and action—must cease. When this bondage is fully pacified and destroyed, the Self manifests effortlessly, and one attains the eternal state.
What must be dissolved or pacified for the Self to be realized and the eternal state to be attained?
