What kind of thinking or belief system keeps a soul trapped in the endless cycle of birth and death?

The primary cause for being trapped in the eternal cycle of worldly existence (Samsara) is a sense of separation born from ignorance. Chapter 37 explains that a person who holds the belief that "Parabrahman is different from me; I am not that, I am something else" is always subject to death. This perception of difference, where the universal Brahman appears to be something other than oneself, perpetuates the cycle where death follows birth, and rebirth follows death.
