Chapter 2 does not mention Sai Baba giving the author any physical writing implements like a pen or paper. The instruction to create the book was a verbal command and a spiritual blessing. Baba told him, "A collection of stories, news, and experiences should indeed be made. Keep a record; it is good. My full help is with it." The more profound statement, "I myself shall enter with 'I-ness' and write with my own hand," is metaphorical. As Chapter 2 clarifies, this means the author is simply a pretext or an instrument, and the divine inspiration and true authorship come from Baba himself once the writer's ego is surrendered.
