What is the story of Bhagwantrao Kshirsagar, and why did Sai Baba say he was keeping both Baba and Vitthal hungry?

📖 Chapter 4

Chapter 4 narrates the story of Bhagwantrao Kshirsagar, whose father was a devout worshipper of Vitthal. After his father's passing, Bhagwantrao neglected the family traditions; the worship and food offerings (Naivedya) to the Vitthal idol ceased, and he even skipped his father's annual Shraddha ceremony. When Bhagwantrao came to Shirdi, Sai Baba, who called the father his friend, revealed his knowledge of this neglect. Baba stated, "He never offers food (Naivedya); he keeps me hungry too. He keeps Vitthal hungry too," thereby linking the neglect of the family deity to starving Baba himself. He explained that he brought Bhagwantrao to Shirdi specifically to remind him of his duties and set him back on the path of worship.
