What is the significance of the Udi that Baba gave to his devotees?

The Udi, or sacred ash, that Baba gave holds deep significance. As explained in Chapter 33, Baba would distribute this ash, which he called Prasad, from the constantly burning Dhuni in the Masjid. On one level, it served to remove physical and mental afflictions. On a more profound level, the Udi is a powerful symbol.
