What is the significance of performing a 'Parayan' of a Guru's biography, and who benefits from it?

The preface in Chapter 0 explains that performing a Parayan, or a devotional reading of a detailed poetic Guru biography, is a form of Guru service. The benefits are widespread. The writer of the biography performs a direct service to the Guru. When other devotees also study and perform Parayans of that same work, the writer gains the additional merit of serving God within humanity (Jan-Janardan). Crucially, those other devotees who engage in the study also benefit by progressing towards the purpose of their own lives, creating a shared spiritual upliftment for the entire community.
