What is the Satcharitra's perspective on heaven, and why is it considered less desirable than a life of devotion on Earth?

📖 Chapter 37

According to Chapter 37, the conventional desire for heaven is questioned. The text explains that the heavenly home is primarily a place for temporary sensual enjoyment, and one is destined to fall from it once their accumulated merit is exhausted. It is considered less desirable because it often lacks the essential elements of spiritual life, such as the remembrance of Lord Narayana and the chanting of His name. Chapter 37 makes a striking comparison, stating that the pleasure experienced by Indra in heaven is fundamentally no different from that of a donkey wallowing in a dung-heap, suggesting all sensual pleasure is of equal, and ultimately low, value. Therefore, the Satcharitra encourages striving for something more permanent than the fleeting rewards of heaven.
