What is the root cause of being trapped in the cycle of birth and death (Samsara), and how can one overcome it?

The Shri Sai Satcharitra, in Chapter 37, identifies the root cause of being trapped in the eternal cycle of birth and death, or Samsara, as a deluded and dualistic consciousness. A person who believes 'Parabrahman is different from me; I am not that' is subject to this cycle. This sense of difference and separation from the ultimate reality is a form of ignorance. The text also identifies Adharma, anger, and hatred as the 'nooses of death.' Overcoming this involves realizing the oneness of the Self with Brahman, the divine principle that pervades all of creation, and dedicating all actions to God to attain a state of fearlessness.
