What is the role of the Guru in dispelling fear and ending the cycle of worldly existence?

The Guru's role is central to achieving liberation and fearlessness. Chapter 37 states that when one surrenders completely to the Satguru—with body, speech, mind, and all five life-breaths—there is no longer any reason to fear worldly existence, as the Guru is the one who removes all such worries. Specifically concerning the fear of death, one is instructed to hold firmly to the Guru’s feet to be granted the non-dual intellect. Ignorance (Avidya), which is the root cause of the cycle of birth and death, is countered by acquiring knowledge through the scriptures and, crucially, the Guru. This knowledge of oneness, bestowed by the Guru, is what ultimately ceases the cycle of destruction and creation.
