What is the relationship between Faith and Patience, and why are these two qualities considered essential for a disciple?

📖 Chapter 19

In Chapter 19, Faith (Nishtha) and Patience (Saburi) are presented as the two most crucial offerings a disciple can give to a Guru, symbolized by the 'two paise'. They are described as being inseparable, like 'two sisters, dear as life to each other.' The text clarifies that even a very powerful Guru expects these specific qualities from a disciple above all else: 'strong faith at the Guru’s feet and the strength of courage which is patience.' A person's life is considered 'in vain' without patience, regardless of their other scholarly or virtuous achievements. Therefore, these twin virtues form the bedrock of a disciple's spiritual development and their ability to receive the Guru's grace.
