What is the relationship between devotion, ignorance (Avidya), and knowledge (Jnana) in the pursuit of realizing God?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 50

According to the teachings in Chapter 50, devotion to God is the essential first step for cleansing the mind, which is soiled by ignorance (Avidya). Without devotion, true knowledge cannot be born, and practices like bhajan and worship are rendered meaningless. Devotion acts like a special collyrium that, when applied, removes the veil of ignorance and allows knowledge to dawn. This knowledge is described as the attainment of one's own true form. Therefore, devotion is the catalyst that removes ignorance, paving the way for the ultimate realization of Brahman-knowledge.
