What is the reason for the incarnation of saints on Earth, and what is required from a person to benefit from their stories?

According to Chapter 23 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra, the incarnations of saints occur on Earth out of benevolence, specifically for the salvation of dull-witted souls. This is presented as an act of grace from the Almighty. However, to benefit from their presence and teachings, a certain prerequisite is needed from the individual. The text states that only if one has a store of merit (Punya) will a desire arise in their heart to hear the stories of saints. It is through hearing these stories with faith and devotion that one can find happiness and contentment, and calamities like sorrow and delusion are calmed, leading the devotee to peace.
