What is the purpose of performing a 'Parayan' and why are some books considered unsuitable for this practice?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 0

The purpose of performing a Parayan, or a devotional reading, of a Guru's biography is to engage in a form of Guru service. As explained in Chapter 0, this act allows devotees to immerse themselves in the Guru's life and teachings, which helps them achieve the purpose of their own lives. However, not all texts are suitable for a dedicated Parayan. Chapter 0 clarifies that if one wishes to perform a Parayan specifically for a single saint, biographies that are not comprehensive or detailed, often spanning only two or three pages within larger works, are not useful for this purpose. A proper Parayan requires a detailed, poetic, and comprehensive work like the Shri Sai Satcharita.
