What is the nature of Avidya, or ignorance, and why is it considered an obstacle?

📖 Chapter 50

According to the philosophy detailed in Chapter 50, Avidya, or ignorance, is the foundational cause of the causal body and the illusion that obscures reality. It is what makes the ultimate reality, Brahman, appear as 'qualified' (shabal). The text uses analogies like mistaking a rope for a snake or seeing silver in a shell to illustrate how Avidya makes one thing appear as something else. This ignorance, also referred to as Maya, is responsible for the delusion of the phenomenal world and the false identification with the body and possessions. As Chapter 50 explains, the discernment and removal of this Avidya are absolutely necessary to attain true knowledge and liberation.
