What is the meaning of the metaphor involving the parrot and the cage as described in Chapter 23?

📖 Chapter 23

In Chapter 23, a powerful metaphor is used to describe the human condition, comparing the soul to a parrot (Shuka) and the body to a cage. The text explains that the sensual soul (Kamuk), much like a parrot that has lost its freedom, comes to believe its state of dependence is good. The parrot finds happiness in its cage, enjoying pomegranate seeds and sweet chilies, and fears the freedom outside. Similarly, the soul becomes attached to the body and its sensual pleasures, forgetting its true nature and the wonder of spiritual freedom. This delusion, as the chapter suggests, continues until an extraordinary master, or Guru, intervenes to apply the 'ointment' of knowledge to its eyes, revealing its true state and the path to liberation.
