Chapter 5 of the Sai Satcharitra narrates a profound story about a Guru-disciple relationship involving Devidas and a Fakir, who was Sai Baba. As recounted in this chapter, Devidas was a wise teacher in Shirdi who had many disciples. When the Fakir appeared, a scriptural debate was held in which the Fakir was defeated and left for Vaijapur. After many years, he returned and bowed to Sainath, his delusion about being the Guru having been dispelled. Baba, in turn, treated Devidas with respect, demonstrating the lesson "His Guruship to him, and my discipleship to me."
