What is Shraddha, and can you provide an example from the scriptures of someone neglecting this duty?

📖 Chapter 4

In the context of the sacred texts, Shraddha refers to the death anniversary rites performed for one's ancestors. Chapter 4 provides a compelling example involving Bhagwantrao Kshirsagar. His father was a devout worshipper of Vitthal, but after his passing, Bhagwantrao neglected these duties. The text notes that the worship, food offerings, and even the Shraddha were skipped. When Bhagwantrao came to Shirdi, Sai Baba, who called the father his friend, pointed out this neglect, stating, "He never offers food (Naivedya); he keeps me hungry too... He keeps Vitthal hungry too, that’s why I brought him to Shirdi." Baba's intervention served to remind Bhagwantrao of his familial and spiritual obligations.
