What is Maya and how do I get past it? Is it just about gaining knowledge?

The text states that Maya is indescribable and very difficult to cross over. While the unassailable Vedic theorem is "Only from knowledge comes liberation," Chapter 50 adds a crucial condition: the dawn of knowledge is impossible without the destruction of sinful karma.
