What is Avidya or ignorance, and how does it relate to the world we perceive?

📖 Chapter 50

Avidya, also known as ignorance or Maya, is the root cause of delusion and the creation of the world as we perceive it. As explained in Chapter 50, this ignorance is what makes the pure, unmanifest Brahman appear as the tangible world. This process is likened to seeing a rope as a snake or a shell as silver. The world itself is described as the characteristic form of this Avidya-Maya, a non-existent delusion produced by this powerful illusion. To gain true knowledge, one must first discern and understand the nature of this ignorance and move aside its veils.
