What is Avidya, and why is it so important to understand it for spiritual progress?

📖 Chapter 50

Avidya is described as ignorance, the Worldly Illusion, and is also referred to as Maya or Prakriti-Pradhan. Chapter 50 explains that it is the root cause of the 'causal body' and is what qualifies Brahman, making the phenomenal world seem real. It is the force behind illusions, such as seeing a snake in a rope or the entire world of a dream. The text emphasizes that understanding Avidya is crucial because it is the primary obstacle to liberation. Only by discerning and removing this veil of ignorance, which fuels pride and attachment like 'I am the body', can true knowledge arise and one can attain Moksha.
