What instructions did Sai Baba give about the writing of his life story, and what was the author's role?

As recorded in Chapter 2, Sai Baba gave his full permission and help for a collection of his stories to be created. However, he clarified that the author was merely a pretext or an instrument. Sai stated, "I myself shall write my own story!" The condition for this divine intervention was that the author must completely dissolve his ego and surrender it at Sai's feet. Once the ego was gone, Sai promised to enter with 'I-ness' and write with his own hand. Therefore, the author's role was to achieve a state of egoless surrender to become a pure channel for Sai Baba's own narration.
