What information did Swami Somdevji provide to the Madrasi sannyasi in Shirdi, and what was its effect?

In Chapter 31, when the sannyasi Vijayananda met Swami Somdevji in Shirdi, he inquired about the journey to Mansarovar. Swami Somdevji gave him a sobering account of the pilgrimage. He explained that Mansarovar was approximately five hundred miles from the source of the Gangotri, the path was subject to heavy snow, the language changed every fifty miles, and outsiders faced significant hardship and fear from the locals. As the chapter recounts, hearing this news directly from the Swami's mouth had a strong negative effect on the sannyasi; he became dejected, his mind grew distressed, and he was immersed in worry about his quest.
