What happened to Kashiram when he was attacked by thieves, and how did he survive?

When Kashiram was attacked by thieves, they tried to steal a small bundle he was carrying. Believing it contained treasure, they fought him for it, but it only held powdered sugar. As mentioned in Chapter 0, Kashiram defended himself fiercely, picking up a dropped sword and killing two thieves before a third struck him with an axe, leaving him unconscious. The thieves left him for dead, but he later regained consciousness. He refused to go to a hospital, insisting on being taken to Shirdi. There, under Maharaj's instructions, Madhavrao Deshpande treated him, and by Maharaj's grace, he recovered.
