What happened to Kashiram immediately after he was attacked by thieves, and how did he recover?

After being struck by an axe and left for dead by thieves, Kashiram eventually regained consciousness. As detailed in Chapter 0, his faith in Maharaj was so profound that he refused to go to a hospital for his injuries. Instead, he insisted, "Take me to Shirdi." He was brought there, and following Maharaj's instructions, Madhavrao Deshpande treated him. By Maharaj's grace, Kashiram's health improved and he recovered fully. For his brave act of fighting the thieves, he even received a sword as a gift from the Bombay government. He lived for some years after this incident.
