Although the thieves thought Kashiram was dead after striking him with an axe, he was only unconscious and later regained his senses. Demonstrating his profound faith, he refused to be taken to a hospital for treatment. Instead, he insisted, "Take me to Shirdi." As Chapter 0 recounts, he was brought to Shirdi where, on Maharaj's instructions, Madhavrao Deshpande treated him. By Sai Baba's grace, Kashiram's health improved and he made a full recovery. For his bravery, he later received a sword as a gift from the Bombay government.
