Once the procession concluded and Sai Baba was seated in the Chavadi, a series of loving rituals would take place. As detailed in Chapter 51, devotees would honor Him by adorning His body. He would be offered various ornaments and beautiful clothes, including sometimes a crest, a plume, a golden crown, or a deep-colored turban with a gold-embroidered dress. Devotees would lovingly place garlands of diamonds, pearls, and emeralds around His neck. His body would be anointed with sandalwood, a fragrant musk mark would be applied to His forehead, and some would wash His feet and offer worship with water before placing betel leaf, or tambool, in His mouth.
