What happened after the author retired, and what did Anna Chinchonikar ask Sai Baba on his behalf?

After the author's government service was completed in 1916, he went to visit Shirdi on Guru Purnima. As Chapter 3 recounts, a devotee named Anna Chinchonikar, who had great concern for the author, made a spontaneous request to Sai Baba. He pleaded with Baba to show grace upon the author, whose household was growing, and find him another job. Anna expressed his worry that the author's pension would not be sufficient and asked Baba to remove this worry by providing new employment.
