What does the story of Dharamsee and the grapes teach us about ego and surrender?

📖 Chapter 35

The story of Boss Dharamsee highlights the importance of surrendering one's ego at the feet of a Guru. Chapter 35 explains that trying to understand Sai's ways through intellect can lead to misfortune, and true happiness is found by "becoming egoless and rolling at his feet." Dharamsee initially approached Baba with a critical mind, disliking the grapes offered and questioning Baba's sainthood. His ego created a "problem at the very beginning." However, when he obeyed Baba's command to "Eat them up," he experienced a miracle—the grapes with seeds became seedless. This act of obedience and the subsequent miracle caused his ego to drop away completely, replacing it with love and devotion. This illustrates that surrendering our personal preferences and intellectual doubts is key to experiencing the Guru's grace.
