What does the story about the temple renovation teach about the consequences of greed and dishonesty?

📖 Chapter 47

The backstory of the snake and frog, as partially explained in Chapter 47, serves as a powerful lesson on the karmic consequences of greed. A wealthy man, who would be reborn as the snake Veerabhadrappa, was put in charge of a temple renovation. Despite having ample funds collected from the community, his inherent stinginess led him to mismanage the project. He spent all the raised money while ensuring "no expense would fall on him," leaving the holy work incomplete. The text describes him as an "embodiment of stinginess." This act of financial dishonesty and greed created such negative karma that it fueled a "bone-deep enmity" that persisted even after death, leading to a lower birth.
