What does the Satcharitra say about Sai Baba's death? Did he actually die like a normal person?

📖 Chapter 43

According to Chapter 43 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra, Sai Baba did not experience death in the ordinary sense. The text explains that for a perfected being like Sai, who is the 'complete Supreme Brahman,' birth and death are 'false imaginations.' It posits that death for saints is merely a 'defect of vision,' comparing it to an eclipse that temporarily hides the sun but doesn't extinguish it. The chapter further clarifies that Sai Samarth could 'die at will,' and he consciously 'burned the body in the fire of Yoga' to merge himself into the unmanifest. Therefore, his departure was not a death but a voluntary transition, as he is considered to be beyond the physical limitations and karmic compulsions that govern the life and death of ordinary beings.
