What does the incident with Boss Dharamsee teach us about ego and surrender when approaching a spiritual master?

📖 Chapter 35

The encounter between Boss Dharamsee and Sai Baba in Chapter 35 serves as a profound lesson on ego and surrender. Dharamsee arrived with a 'clinical scrutiny' and his ego was evident in his thoughts, questioning why a saint would force him to eat grapes he disliked. He was troubled and tried to manage the situation on his own terms. However, true transformation occurred only when he obeyed Baba's command to 'Eat them up.' In that moment of surrender, he experienced the miracle of the grapes turning seedless. As the text from Chapter 35 states, 'All his ego dropped away, and love for the saint was born.' This illustrates that to experience the Guru's grace and enjoy the 'festival of happiness,' one must become egoless and surrender personal judgments at the Guru's feet.
