Chapter 44 of the Shri Sai Satcharitra explains the events surrounding Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi. In the fourteen days leading up to his passing, Baba had a Brahmin read the Ramayana to him continuously. As detailed in this chapter, he attained the state of bodilessness on the day of Vijayadashami. Following this, for the next twenty-six hours, a debate ensued between his Hindu and Muslim devotees about the proper final rites for his body.
