What does Chapter 16 teach about the proper attitude a disciple should have when approaching the Guru, and what are the consequences of a wrong approach?

📖 Chapter 16

Chapter 16 emphasizes that a disciple's attitude is paramount. The correct approach is one of complete surrender, sincere faith, and humility. The text states that if even a leaf or flower is offered with faith, the Guru accepts it with love. However, it warns sternly against pride or "cleverness" (Chaturai). As mentioned in this chapter, if an offering is made with pride, the Guru will turn His face away. Furthermore, even a slight neglect in service or an attempt to be clever can lead a spiritual seeker into trouble. Therefore, the chapter concludes that firm faith at the Guru's feet is the only necessary and effective path, as all other means will fail.
