What did Sai Baba say must happen before He would personally take over and write His own story?

Sai Baba established a clear spiritual prerequisite that must be met before he would directly author his own biography. As recorded in Chapter 2, after granting permission for the work to begin, Baba stated that the writer was merely a pretext. The condition for his direct intervention was the complete annihilation of the author's ego. Baba specified, "He should dissolve his ego and surrender it at my feet... When the ego is dissolved, no trace of it remains. Then I myself shall enter with 'I-ness' and write with my own hand." He promised his full assistance to anyone who successfully acts in this way.
