What did Sai Baba do during the Chavadi procession, and how did he appear to his devotees?

During the Chavadi procession, Sai Baba was the center of a royal and devotional spectacle. According to Chapter 51, a royal umbrella was held over His head as He walked. On His left, Tatya Patil would hold a lantern. A key moment occurred when the procession reached the Chavadi; Baba would stop, face north, and perform ritual hand movements, as if calling someone with His right hand. His face, already having a golden hue, would shine like gold mixed with copper in the light of the lamps, appearing like the morning sun to his devotees.
