In his early days, Maharaj resided in a dilapidated Masjid and would go for meals if invited. The Introduction (Chapter 0) explains that he initially provided medicines to people free of charge and would even personally care for patients who were not being looked after properly. Later on, his practice evolved; he stopped giving medicine and instead began to give only Udi, or ash, which also brought benefits to people. Maharaj himself mentioned to the writer, whom he called Kaka, that after he stopped giving medicine, he started chanting 'Hari Hari' and through that, he 'met Hari.'
What did Maharaj do for people when he first arrived, and how did his methods of helping them change over time?
