What did Baba mean when he said his Guru asked him for 'two paise'?

📖 Chapter 19

When Baba refers to his Guru asking for 'two paise,' he is not speaking of worldly money. As Chapter 19 explains, his Guru was one whose desires were fulfilled and had no need for gold. Instead, these 'two paise' were symbolic. They represented the two crucial qualities a disciple must offer: Faith (Nishtha) and Patience (Saburi). Baba clarifies, "Faith (Nishtha) and Patience (Saburi)—these were the two paise, nothing else; I gave them to him then and there, and thus my Guru-Mother was pleased with me." This offering is what truly pleases a Guru, not material wealth.
