According to the teachings in Chapter 37, the primary cause of the endless cycle of birth and death, or Samsara, is a deluded state of ignorance. This ignorance manifests as the belief that you are separate from the ultimate reality, thinking, "Parabrahman is different from me; I am not that." The text states that he who has this knowledge of difference is always subject to death and rebirth. Furthermore, it identifies Adharma (unrighteousness), ignorance, anger, and hatred as the 'nooses of death.' To escape this cycle, one must cross these negative traits entirely.
