Chapter 37 explains that the root cause of being trapped in the cycle of worldly existence, or Samsara, is a fundamental misunderstanding of one's own nature. This cycle, where death follows birth and rebirth follows death, turns eternally behind a person who possesses the "knowledge of difference." This is the deluded belief that "Parabrahman is different from me; I am not that, I am something else." Holding this perception of separation from the ultimate reality (Brahman) is what subjects a soul to the continuous and repetitive cycle of death and rebirth.
What causes a soul to be trapped in the endless cycle of birth and death?
