What attitude should a devotee adopt to escape ignorance and receive the Guru's knowledge?

A devotee seeking to escape the "sleep of ignorance" must adopt an attitude of deep humility and total surrender. The texts urge one to awaken and drink the nectar of the Guru's knowledge. To do this, as Chapter 27 explains, one must become very humble and surrender at the Guru's feet. This is because the Guru alone knows what is proper and improper, while we are likened to ignorant children. A devotee should not even be concerned with worldly matters like food and clothing, but should instead focus day and night on spiritual contemplation and becoming spiritually accomplished through the Guru's grace.
