What are the two different motivations for studying a Guru's biography, and which one is considered better?

📖 Chapter 0

As detailed in Chapter 0, both knowledge texts and Guru biographies can be used in two distinct ways, based on the practitioner's motivation. The first is 'Kamya,' which means 'with desire.' This approach is used for worldly purposes, such as achieving prosperity or seeking relief from worries, calamities, and diseases. The second approach is 'Nishkam,' which means 'with a selfless mind.' This motivation is focused purely on spiritual goals, specifically attaining liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The text states unequivocally that Nishkam Guru service, performed for the sake of salvation, will always be superior to service performed with worldly desires.
