What are the primary obstacles that prevent even wise individuals from realizing self-luminous knowledge?

📖 Chapter 50

According to the wisdom in Chapter 50, knowledge, though self-luminous, is often hidden by ignorance, much like a clean mirror is covered by dust or fire is obscured by smoke. The primary culprits behind this obscuration are Desire (Kama) and Anger (Krodha). The text explains that Desire is the root cause of all activity and disasters. When the fulfillment of a desire is obstructed, it directly transforms into anger. These two forces are so powerful that they can corrupt the intellect of even great knowers, causing their downfall. Chapter 50 notes that these hindrances to knowledge and liberation dwell right alongside the Brahman-form, making them a constant and intimate challenge for the soul on its path.
