What are the main obstacles to attaining knowledge and following the path of Shreya, as detailed in Chapter 17?

📖 Chapter 17

Chapter 17 identifies several significant obstacles on the spiritual path. The primary one is beginningless ignorance, or Maya, which is a false imposition that must be dissolved. Furthermore, the text warns that desires for seen and unseen enjoyments, hope, thirst, and cravings are always obstacles that must be dug out by the roots. The chapter also specifically calls out lust and anger as two tendencies that do not allow for the attainment of knowledge because they instantly disrupt the crucial processes of listening, contemplation, and meditation, thereby hindering spiritual progress.
