Chapter 31 describes the darveshis' mixed reactions. On one hand, they were sad-faced because the tiger was their 'means of livelihood' and their 'family's sustenance.' They asked Baba what would become of them and how the burial should be handled. On the other hand, they also looked pleased because they recognized the diseased creature had attained liberation. Sai Baba comforted them, saying not to worry, as the tiger's end was destined to happen there. He explained that the creature was very meritorious and had attained supreme bliss. Baba then instructed them to bury the tiger near the Nandi in Shankara's temple, assuring them that it would attain a good end.
The tiger was the darveshis' livelihood. How did they react to its death, and what did Baba tell them?
